As of 15 January 21, persons entering Austria must register electronically in advance. The so-called “Pre-Travel Clearance” is mandatory before entering Austria. In principle, all persons entering Austria must register online. Children and adolescents are also included.
The data of the online registration are automatically forwarded to the district administrative authority responsible for the place of stay in Austria. The electronic registration obligation is intended to help improve the control of a quarantine and to facilitate contact tracing.
Based on the data entered, the system informs which consequences are attached to the entry – i.e. whether the person has to go into quarantine or is allowed to enter unhindered. The persons entering the country then receive a PDF document with a QR code and the entered data via download and to the specified e-mail address. This document must either be printed out or carried digitally (on a smartphone). In the event of a check by the authorities, this document must be presented.
